St George's Class
Welcome to St George's Class - Year 4
Welcome to term 2! This term we continue our exciting topic ‘Empire strikes’, studying the ancient Romans. In Science, we are learning about forces and magnets
Mrs Wareing is the full time teacher in St. Georges class and our teaching assistant is Mrs Oldroyd working with us and St. David's on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. She supports our learning in class and provides additional support to groups of children or individuals. Mr Webber will cover St. George's on Tuesday afternoons, teaching swimming and PSHE.
PE
PE is on Mondays and Tuesdays. Our units are netball and swimming so outdoor kit and shoes required on Mondays with swimming kit on Tuesdays. On PE days, your child should come into school wearing their PE kit.
Homework
Homework is set on a Wednesday and due in the following Tuesday. All children have a homework book to complete their work. Homework includes spellings, number fact recall/rehearsal and another activity that links to learning we are doing in class. I also encourage children to practise their timestables on Times Tables Rockstars, details of which will be provided in homework books along with their logins.

Reading at Home
Every child will be given a reading book from the coloured level they are on previously. Over the coming days I will listen to each child individually to confirm or change their level. Your child will also bring home a reading record. It is extremely important that they or you record the book in their reading record so that I can keep track of how much reading they are doing and the variety of books they are experiencing. Reading at home is essential in a child’s development and is a wonderful opportunity for your child to share their book with you. We recommend that your child is reading at home for ten minutes every day. It is important that each child remembers their books every day, as I timetable regular opportunities to read in class.
This term our class reading book is 'The Wild Robot' by Peter Brown.
We are also reading and studying 'Wisp - a story of hope' by Zana Fraillon and Grahame Baker-Smith.
I look forward to a wonderful autumn term with the St George's Crew
